Curating                    Writing                    Publications                    About

Sofia Lemos is a curator and writer whose practice explores the intersections of art, performance, and discourse. Her work centres on artists and ideas that inspire connection, continually exploring experimental formats and collaborative approaches that foster accessibility, critical inquiry, and meaningful experiences, often with a focus on ecology.

From 2021 to 2024, she served as Curator at TBA21–Academy, where she launched a program focused on ecology and community practice, featuring fellowships, commissions, and convenings with artists, musicians, performers, and thinkers. Previously, from 2018 to 2021, she was Curator of Public Programmes and Research at Nottingham Contemporary, where she led live programmes and collaborative projects, including the multi-year Sonic Continuum, exploring the relationship between the sonic and social change.

Lemos was associate curator at the Riga Biennial (2020), a visiting curator at Galeria Municipal do Porto (2017–18), and part of the curatorial team for Contour Biennale 8 (2017). She has collaborated with institutions such as Culturgest (2025), Frac Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (2022), Galerias Municipais de Lisboa (2018), Serralves Museum (2017), and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (2017). Her curatorial projects, spanning exhibitions, performances, and discursive programs, have featured artists and thinkers such as Alexandra Bachzetsis, Edgar Calel, Jack Halberstam, Trajal Harrell, Isabel Lewis, Paul Preciado, and others.

She edited Meandering: Art, Ecology, and Metaphysics (Sternberg Press, 2024), Sonic Continuum: On the Sound and Poetics of Time (Nottingham Contemporary, 2021), and co-edited Metabolic Rifts (Anagram, 2019). She contributes regularly to publications and exhibition catalogues.
